PFLAG a 2022 Light of CArroll Award Winner!!

On Sunday, Oct. 22 2023, PFLAG Westminster-Carroll County was presented with a National Chapter Award from PFLAG National on the final day of Learning with Love: The 2023 PFLAG National Convention in Arlington, VA. The award was in recognition of their new PFLAG Unity Center, a dedicated safe space for LGBTQIA+ individuals.

“Chapters like PFLAG Westminster-Carroll County lead with love by doing all they can to ensure every LGBTQ+ person is safe, celebrated, affirmed and loved. I am proud to honor this chapter’s commitment with a PFLAG National Chapter Award,” said Brian K. Bond, Chief Executive Officer of PFLAG National.

“As the nomination for PFLAG Westminster-Carroll County pointed out, this active chapter makes a remarkable impact on its community. This year, the chapter opened the PFLAG Unity Center, an LGBTQIA+ community center space sponsored by St Paul's United Church of Christ. There, families find PFLAG support meetings, including dedicated support and education meetings for transgender and nonbinary people and their families, and LGBTQIA+ youth and allies have space to safely hang out and be themselves. PFLAG Westminster-Carroll County's deep ties to the community through outreach programs and partnerships is just one of the reasons this chapter was also awarded the "Light of Carroll'' award by the Carroll County Public Library system in 2022.”
